Early Years Mentor (Teacher) – Play Specialist – Part Time
Phillip Island Village School is seeking a part-time Early Years Mentor (Teacher) with demonstrated expertise in play-based learning and early childhood pedagogy to join our dynamic and supportive teaching team.
This role is particularly suited to an educator with a strong understanding of the educational value of play, and experience in designing rich, responsive learning environments that support child-led exploration, inquiry, imagination, social development and executive skill growth. We are looking for someone who sees play as central to learning rather than separate from it, and who can intentionally scaffold learning through play, provocations, project work, storytelling, open-ended materials, and relationship-based practice.
Applicants should have experience in play-based and inquiry-led approaches, with a strong understanding of contemporary early years practice, including the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).
The Early Years Mentor is responsible for overseeing the development of students working across Foundation to Level 1 by providing learning opportunities within the Village School programs aligned with both the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and the VEYLDF. This includes a strong focus on student agency, play, inquiry, creativity, project-based learning, social and emotional development, and responsive teaching at the point of need.
We are looking for a creative, reflective and energetic teacher with a natural affinity for alternative education and a strong capacity to build warm, respectful relationships with children and families. The successful applicant will value student voice, autonomy and collaboration, and be excited by the opportunity to work within a small, connected school community.
The successful applicant will work Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, commencing Wednesday 15 July 2026, with 1–2 negotiated CRT transition days in June.
Remuneration will be negotiated within the salary range of $82,909–$87,106 pro rata, based on relevant experience and alignment with the school’s philosophy.
Applications close Wednesday 27 May 2026, with interviews taking place in the week beginning 1 June. Please review the Position Description and then complete the online application so we can get to know you further.
